CADET COMPANIES.

I ARTILLERY AND ENGINEERS. ATTACHED TO VOLUNTEER COMPANIES. CONDITIONS FOR CAPITATION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. New regulations under the Defence Act are published in the " Gazette" in respect of cadet companies. The minimum strength is fixed at 35, and the maximum at 63. Cadet companies in connection with colleges and high schools may be formed into battalions, the minimum number of companies forming such a battalion being three. On the formation of a battalion the stafl shall be provided by the schools. Two companies of artillery cadets and one company of engineer cadets may be formed in each of the four principal districts where such companies are formed. One company of artillery cadets shall be : attached to the division of garrison artil- ' lery volunteers, and the other company to the battery of field artillery volunteers in the military district to which they belong. The company of engineer cadets shall be attached to the companies of engineer volunteers in the military district to which it belongs. Both the artillery | and engineer cadet companies are to be ' exercised in the same musketry course as is laid down for infantry cadet com- | panics. The organisation and drill shall be that of the arm of the service to which they are attached. To earn capitation the following conditions must be complied with: (1) Each member of a cadet corps must attend during the volunteer year at least twenty-four parades, each of which shall be of at least one hour's duration. (2) Each member must be exercised in the annual musketry course as laid down for that year by the Council of Defence. (3) The company must be up to or above the minimum strength. (4) At least twentyfive members must qualify for capitation. Cadet companies other than those men- j tioned above, shall be attached to adult volunteer companies or battlions in the district in which they are serving. I
