THE QUEBEC CELEBRATIONS.
INVITATION TO NEW ZEALAND. (By Telegraph. - Own Reporter.) ROTOR VA, this day. j Sir Joseph Ward has received the fol-1 lowing invitation through his Excellency the Governor from Eurl Grey (Governor- j General of the Dominion of Canada) :— I '■Responsible Ministers request mc to forward an invitation to your Prime Minister to come to Quebec and be their guest during the celebrations at which H.R.H. the Prince of Wales will be present during the week from July 22 to July 20." He sincerely hopes that the Primp .Minister will be able to attend personally, and that, if that is impos- , sible. he will in any case send a representative. Sir Joseph Ward has replied, through his lixcollcney the Governor, expressing rpgTet that, as Parliament will be sitting at the time named, he will be unable personally to accept the invitation, but hopes to arrange to havr the Dominion of New Zealand suitably represented. An amusing incident occurred during the hearing of a claim for compensation at the Arbitration Court in Wellington Upon leaving the witness box a. well known medical practitioner inadver- ; tenlly picked up the liible, which is used for swearing witnesses, and put it in his ' pocket along with his note-book. The | error was not discovered until the next witness was called. Amidst laughter, the Court orderly was despatched post haste after the absent-minded doctor, who had> however, by this time disappeared | from view. Another Bible was quickly I forthcoming.
