EDUCATION QUESTION.
J Private Measure in the Lords. LONDON, March 19. Tbe Bishop of St. Asaph (Right Rev. A. G. Edwards) has resubmitted to the House of Lords the Education Bill he' introduced in 1904, accepting the principles of public control and the abolition of tests and providing for simple Christian teaching at given school hours at the cost of the local education authority. Thrice a week facilities are to be given for enabling children, whose parents so wish, to receive distinctive religious instruction, but not at the cost of the local education authority. The Church of England, under the bill, gives up the appointment of teachers and ; , contracting out, and transfers its school buildings for secular instruction. " The Times " hints that the Bishop is receiving some Ministeri?l encourage- ; Jment. j The Liberal papers suggest that the < right of entry to schools for denomina- I tional teaching will be an obstacle to J the acceptance of the bill.
