A sritnpis named Duncan MeDiarmid, *no gave evidence at an inquest on Alexander McClennaa. who was found dead m his bedroom at a Maeterton hotel, sade a remarkable statement. Mc said ac had been drinking all Friday, and v.-ent t0 bed at the Central Hotel in the same room as deceased. He did not engage * j»d. and did not remember going to ted. On waking at U a.m. he found deceased dead on the floor. In reply to tne Coroner, he stated: "He was dead. 1 made quick out of it. and did not let the dust rise. I was never so frightwed in all my life. Hγ was dead, and as stiff as a poker. T left the room quick and lively, and so would you if you were mmy position. I never told a soul. I passed the licensee on the stairs, but ? a Q not time to speak to him. as I was M too great a hurry to clear. 1 was comparatively sober ac that time, but was locked up soon afterwards, but what for 1 "lon't know. -.
