CRUSHED BY 30 TONS OF STONE.
An accident occurred at the Government quarry, Port Kembla, resulting in the death of the foreman, Mr. John Cro- j nan. A workman named Niland had a j narrow escape . ! Crortan was climbing up the face of! the quarry on a tour of inspection with Niland. When up a distance of about,' 40ft. a large piece of stone, on which, they were standing, weighing about 30 j tons, broke loose, and carried" both men I with it. Niland was thrown clear, but ; Cronan was carried beneath the falling j mass and buried. It took two hours to release the j body, when it was found that the neck was broken and the features crushed out of recognition. The deceased leaves a widow and 10 children, and was about 45 years of age.
