FARMERS CHEERFUL AGAIN.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCUURCH, this day. ■ A quicker or m.re satisfactory recov- | ory from a period of drought has never been known in Canterbury than that experienced since the recent ram. A held lon which a green blade could not possibly be found before the welcome showers fell immediately showed signs of very active life , and in less than a week there was over an inch of growth in the grass, and root cr sop benefited proportionately. The re.-ult is that doleful foreboding of dreadful things to happen during the coming winter have all been cast aside, [and, with grass and roots growing every I day, farmers are now quite cheerful I again. There will be a line lot of autumn and winter feed, though many held the opinion before the rain that it had held off too lonjj to |>ermit of any material growth this season. Sheep and J cattle have advanced in price, an.l the ! supply of aft stock for freezing works is being well maintained.
