SUPPOSED SUICIDE.
YOUNG MAN FOUND DEAD. A distressing tragedy was enacted at St. Heliers Bay yesterday afternoon, when a young man, aged about 25 years, named Joseph Breeze, employed for the last month as a porter at Mr. J. Rendell's drapery establishment, Karanga-hape-road, was found dead under circumstances pointing to suicide. Deceased was a passenger by the 10.45 a.m. ferry steamer from Auckland to St. Heller's, where he landed at mid-day. About 2 p.m. he purchased some fruit at Mr. S. Crawshaw's shop, and a little later, a youth named McCulpin came across the body lying on the bank above the teach, with a large tin of potassium cyanide beside him. He was then dead. In deceased's pockets were fonnd letters addressed to i; ..10e" and another to "'Miss Robinson, Dunedin,'' with a memo. "'May be found in Jamieson's, hairdresser. Queen-street." Mr. Jamieson knows of no lady corresponding to this address. As far as is known deceased was unmarried. After some delay due to the non-de-livery of the message to the police at Ellerslie, the body was removed to the morgue. The City Coroner (Mr. T. Gresham) is holding an inquest this afternoon.
