THE WAIH! HOSPITAL.
AUDITOR'S PRELIMINARY REPORT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. The monthly meeting of the Waihi Hospital Trustees was held last night. The gardener resigned as a protest against the doctor and charge nurses having '" turned the town loose on lawns for the recent promenade concert after he took such care of the grounds." It was decided to accept the resignation, and invite applications for the position. The splendid work accomplished by Sister Shillington during the time she acted as matron was referred to, and she was granted sis weeks' holiday, with an additional bonus of £5. A lengthy report was received from Mr. Fowler, Government auditor, who had I inspected the hospital accounts on behalf lof the Auditor-General. After referring to certain irregularities in the accounts of the late secretary, he suggested that a list of outstanding accounts, amounting to £1135 3/8 should he revised by thr? trustees, with a view to taking further proceedings for their recovery, Certain omissions, amounting to £2 10/, were also referred to, the secretary intimating that tbese amounts had been covered by cheque, t-everal accounts, owing to the absence of receipts, were held over for further inquiry. It was decided that the report bo received and the matter h?ld. over until the final report is received from headquarters. The Medical Superintendent reported that admissions during the past month totalled 36, and discharges 44; deaths, 1; operations, 16. There are at present in hospital 19. It was agreed that in fnture persons desiring to avail themeelvcs of private wards ehall pay two guineas per I week. Accounts amounting to £266 were piss ed for payment.
