PIAKO SWAMP.
Interviewed to-day as to the progress of the Piako S-wamp drainage, works, Sir Joseph. Ward stated that there are 50 men now employed cutting channels and j drains. Two specially constructed Priest- ! man dredgers have been cabled for to | England to cut a channel 15 miles long j from the mouth of the Piako to the Wai- j takamru, and the "works will be ener- ' getically pushed on under the supervi- ■ sion of Mr. Brakill, who is in charge of , the works. When this work is com- I pleted, I hope and believo, said Sir | Joseph, that the swamp will be turned into some of the best land available in the province.
