"STATUS IN TNTERESOVINCIAIi HATCHES. -"Telegraph— Own Correspondent.) CHBKTCEOECH, Wednesday. The sub-committee appointed by the New Zealand Cricket Council to consider the suggestion oi £_£ otago Cricket Association that the council should'frame a regulation dealing with the qualification of players taking part in the Plunket shield matches has presented Its report. The committee asserts that ft is desirable that professional cricketers bona fide engaged for the season by a district for the purpose of advancing the standard of play should take part in these matches, but that any attempt to enlist the temporary services of prominent cricketers from abroad for the purpose of winning matches for any association should be strongly discountenanced. The committee therefore suggests the following additions to the rules of the council:— ' 23. No one shall be eligible to play in a match for the Plunket shield unless (a) he was born within the boundaries of tie association district for which it is proposed that he should play, or (b) he has been resident within such district for a period of not less than six months immediately preceding the match, or (c) he has taken up his residence iv such district under circumstances suSßcient to establish to the satisfaction of the council that he has a bona fide intention of remaining In such district for a period of not less than four months. 24. No player shall represent more than one afiiliated association in the same seaeon without the express sanction of the council. 23.
