Inspector returned to town last evening from a three days' visit of inspection to the Northern Wairoa,
Mr J. Hazard, late chief officer of tho Manuka, has retired from the Union Company's service to take up a shore position in Lyttelton.
Mr James Coates, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, is at present on a visit to Auckland.
Constable Earl, who has been stationed in Auckland on the mounted constabulary for the past two years, has been selected for appointment as a sergeant on the Fiji police force.
Messrs Lyman, L. Pierce and W. Gillanders, national secretaries to tho V.M.C.A., leave New Zealand for Australia by the Maheno. from Wellington to-morrow.
His Excellency the Governor will go into residence at Government House, Auckland, immediately after the prorogation of Parliament, and it is therefore unlikely that he will leave Wellington until after the middle of November.
Mr Sutherland, late second officer of the Rotoiti, and Mr Roberts, late second of the Penguin, have exchanged positions. Mr G. Burton, late third officer of the Rotoiti, has gone South for orders; and Mr F. Elliott, late of the Mararoa, has joined the Rotoiti as third officer.
Mr A. Barron, chairman of the Land Purchase Board, left Wellington on Monday last for Gisborne on official business. Afterwards he will proceed to Auckland province to make some inspections, returning to Wellington probably about the middle of next month.
Mr. S. Turner, F.8.G.5., of the Manchester produce firm of Messa. Wilier and Riley, -who has completed his contracts for the season, leaves Auckland for Fiji, en route to Canada and England, on October 30. Mr. Turner is the well-known Alpine climber who scaled Mount Cook a couple of years ago.
