ANGLICAN SYNOD.

YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. The Anglican Synod resumed its sessions yesterday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. DIOCESAN TRUST REVENUE. The committee set up to consider to what purposes the revenue of the Diocesan Trust should be applied by the General Trust Board reported that there was an accumulated sum of £300 and a yearly revenue of £200 to be ?dealt with. "They recommended— (1) That until otherwise directed, the Oeneral Trust Board shall pay out of the income of the diocesan trust, tbe travelling expenses of clergy to and from the meetings of the Diocesan Synod; (2) That the General Trust Board be asked to pay a sum not exceeding £15. to defray cost of binding books belonging to the Bishopscourt Hbrarv and pro-riding glass cases, etc.. for tbeir "safety; (3) Tbat the General Trust Board be authorised to expend the whole or any part of the balance of the Diocesan Trust Board fund in assisting and stimulating local Chnrch work in the poorer and less populous parts of the diocese; (4) That the General Trust Board be authorised, on the recommendation of the Standing Committee, to defray or contribute to the travelling expenses of clergy, moved by authority from one part of the diocese to another;" (5) That the Synod be Invited to give a decision on the question of the payment of the passages from England of clerr for the Home mission work. , It was decided to consider the report Et a later stage. PRESIDENTS RULINGS. The report of the committee appointed to determine whether any irregularities had arisen from certain rulings of the president regarding the formation of a parish, and the alteration of standing orders, and to devise remedies for the same, intimated that it had been found that prior to the passing of regulation 116, parishes were formed by resolution. The committee considered that regulation 116 now rendered it necessary to proceed by statute in all matters affecting the position, rights, duties, or liabilities of members of the chnrch, including the formation of a parish. They also believed that the Act of 1596 made it necessary to proceed by statute in the alteration of standing orders. A difficulty appeared to have arisen from attaching to the word "regulation" a specific and particular import which the word did not bear in the corresponding canon. Tbe committee considered that regulation 116 should be modified or repealed, and that, in clause 68 of the standing orders, the word "regulation" should be excised for some other word. They recommended that the committee be allowed to continue in oflice for the purpose of introducing a validating Act at the first session of the next Synod, and the chairman of the committee gaye notice of motion in that direction. I " DIGEST OF CANONS. f Rev. H. Beatty moved— That the Standing Committee be directed to revise the digest of canons, regulations of the Diocese of Auckland, and to Include therein all legislation passed by tne Synod at its present session. Tnat the Standing Committee cause the said digest when so revised to be printed, and submit the. same to. the president of the Synod for his approval. That the revised digest, if approved by the president, shall be signed by him, and certified. That the revised digest, so signed and certified, shall be the Statute law of the Diocese of Auckland.

The mover intimated that the effect of the resolution would be that the committee would have power, as seemed to them best, to thoroughly revise and put the digest into shape. Archdeacon Willis had stated that he would compile an index. The revised digest might possibly he in the hands of the church by Easter _ext. The Synod went into committee to consider the matter of passing certain clauses which might remain part of the hill for the repeal of certain regulations and the enactment of others. A large number of new paragraphs were allowed to remain part of the bill for enactment, and several . minor alterations were made. ST. MATTHEWS CHURCH. The committee appointed to consider the petition of the church wardens of St. Matthew's Church in regard to an alleged encroachment on the church property, reported that, after taking evidence, it had no recommendation to make. .Mr Mitchelson, in giving notice of motion that consideration be given tbe petition, explained that the survey recently made showed munistakably that Bt. Matthew's Chnrch property had been encroached upon. There was a shortage of Bft. llin. on the Hobson-street frontage, and of 9ft IJin. on the VincentStreet frontage. In 1864 Dr. Hooper leased the property upon which he at present resided, and purchased it in 1871. The house was there in 1849—fifteen previous to Dr. Hooper's occupation. The matter was first raised by the vestry in 1874, but practically nothing had resulted, and it stood exactly in the same position to-day as in 1864. In 1874, Mr Jeffries, a vestryman, moved a resolution to the effect that encroachment was being made by Dr. Hooper, . and-that, in order to secure the right of the church, the land be leased to him at a peppercorn rental of 1/ per annum, hut unfortunately that resolution was not placed on the minutes. Dr. Hooper at first said that he was not aware of the encroachment until' the survey was »sde for; the new study in 1905, but wa< f reminded of the resolution, he admitted that he had a recollection of the resolution being carried, but had not at m tune agreed to it himself. Owing to «8 fact that Dr. Hooper had been closeClat ed with the church, both as restryman and as churchwarden, the matter was not pushed to any extent. ™ offered the Bft. llin.
