FASHIONS.
Everything points to the coming aeason being one of many stripes. Pekine effects will be seen on all sorts and conditions of materials—even on fragile tulle and cobweb net; as to pekine taffetas, it promises to be übiquitous; in grey blue and ivory it is very dainty and attractive, especially when the gown is trimmed with cunningly arranged rows of narrow black velvet ribbons; in this way an old-world effect is obtained, and to be "old-world" is to be ultra-fashion-able in this year of grace. Plain materials are for the nonce put on one side, but still there are those who will never wear stripes, and for their benefit the voiles and nmons come forth in a new shade of pink—'-mushroom" P in k—why mushroom I know not. Then all the new blues are too delightful. But of these more anon, for they figure largaly in the spring millinery. This gown is in russet and cream coloured thick tussore silk. The folded waist-band and long ends, shaped at the hem, are of black satin, the embroidery on the ends clusters of cherries and leaves in silk of natural colours. The sleeves are of broderie Anglaise on lawn, with wide entre deux of lace, and the Vshaped vest in a point to the waist is of broderie Anglaise on lawn The toque of cherries and cherry leaves" shows a tiny bit of crown, which is the russet hue of the stripe in the dres3, and the sunshade is cherry colour.
-Notwithstanding the tardy advent of real summery weather, there is quite a demand for muslins and other thin-tex-tured fabrics. In muslin, voile and cotton stripes are overwhelmingly in evidence. Grey and white stripes" are particularly well favoured. Sometimes the stripes are broken by sprigs of foliage, or by a faint diagonal line of colour. Hosiery is now to be had to match the stripes.
