UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the Auckland University College Council yesterday afternoon was attended by Messrs G. L. Peacoeke (chairman). Dr. McDowell, T. D. Wells, L. J. Bagnall, and A. M. Siyers (Mayor). Chair of Classics. —It was decided to confirm the action of the special meeting (informal) held for the purpose of authorising an extension of time for applications for the position of chair of classics. The Chairman slated that there would be the advantage of Professor Brown's visit to England to assist in the selection. Recistrar's Assistant- —Miss J. J- RunciJnan, - assistant registrar, forwarded her resignation. The meeting, in accepting it with regret, decided to grant Miss Buiiciinan leave of absence on full pay until the end of the year. If this were done, the chairman stated, she would be ready to assist during that period in any matter requiring her tnowledge. Several members referred In eulogistic terms to Miss Uunciman's invaluable services, and stated tliat she had done a very great deal of work while in her present situation. Finance.—Accounts were passed, for paymen: aractmting to £594 IS/HLibrary.—The sum of £35 5/ was voted for additions to the library. Choral Hall.—The Chairman siated that the first draft agreement for th« purchase of th.: Choral.Hall had been in-the , hands of the vendors' solicitors, fefurjied Uy them, nnd again perused by Mr-Tple and himself. As a result, they could not ac(iai«»sce in the form of the agreement a»:d had suggested amendments which would bo submitted to the vendors' solicitors. He did not anticipate any difficnltr in regard to the mnrser. Tenders for building and osber works, he stated, coud not be ".ailed until the matter was decided, although plans and specifications were completed.
