REMCERA ROAD BOARD. The Remuera Road Board met last night, those present being Messrs Dickson (chairman), Cawkwell. Bond, and Dempsey. The Board decided to call fresli applications for the position of ranger, poundkeeper, and dog registrar, at a fixed salary. The clerk was authorised by the Board to serve notices on a number of ratepayers whose hedges were encroaching on the footpaths, and also on those who were turning their drainage Into the water channels. Accounts amounting to £174 on the general account, and £803 on the waterworks account, were passed for payment. It was decided that the initial steps shoudl be taken towards securing the consent -of residents on the north side of the Remuera-road from Mewmarket and Aruey-road, for the carrying out ot a drainage scheiae in that portion of the district. DEVONPORT LITERARY SOCIETY. Yesterday evening a reading of Goldsmith's "She Stoops to Conquer," was interestingly rendered by the members of theabove society. Miss Rishwcrth's dainty rendering of the character of Kate Hardcastle wa3 ably seconded by Mr S. Walker's "Young Marlowe" and Mr J. B. Gresham"s "Mr Hardcastle." The characters of "Mrs Hardeastle," "Miss Neville," and "Tony Lumpkin" were effectively represented by Sirs d'Anthreau, Miss Millar, and Mr Howarth. The parts of "Sir Charles Marlowe" and "Hastings'"-were pleasingly read by Messrs Mitchell and Sihton, and minor ■parts by Messrs Haddow and •WhitmoreBefore refreshments were served Mr Armstrong, ou behalf of the society, thanked Mr -Sinton. for bis able services as secretary drains session of 1907.
