TRAFALGAR DAY.
YESTERDAY'S CELEBRATIONS. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) " : (Received 8.22 a.m.) LONDON, October 21. The Nelson column in Trafalgar-square was once more decorated yesterday, and its base was covered in wreaths, in celebration of the one hundred and second anniversary of Nelson's great victory. _ Flags were hoisted on most of the public buildings of the United Kingdom. The Navy League's annual service was held in St.' Martin's Church, Trafalgar: square; and was largely attended. NEW ZEALAND OBSERVANCE. The only observance of Trafalgar Day in Auckland was made in the display of flags upon several buildings. In Wellington there was a fair display of bunting, ■and the Navy League held a gathering in the Town Hall, which was crowded. His Excellency the Governor attended, and was escorted by a guard of honour from the training-ship Amokura. Lady Plunket, the Hon. Kathleen Plunket, Sir Joseph. Ward, and the Hon. T. W. Hislop were present, with the band from H.M.S. Challenger. His Excellency'spoke in support of the Navy League, and eaid that, as a vice-president of the league, he would send a cablegram Home to-mor-row, to say what a magnificent gathering they had had in the centre of the Dominion of New Zealand on Trafalgar Day. Captain Bridson, commander of the Challenger, and the Mayor (Mr Hislop) also delivered addresses. In Christchurcli Trafalgar Day was celebrated by a patriotic ceremony in Victoria Square, arranged by the local branch of the Navy League. Several school cadet corps pareded, and appropriate speeches were delivered by the Mayor, Bishop Julius, Bishop Grimes, and'Mr G. T. Booth.
