THE ALL-RED ROUTE.
IS I? "WITHIN MEASURABLE 1 ■ DISTANCE? B«i The passengers by the RJVI.S. China '(says $he "Sydney Daily Telegraph' , ), include Mr. A. 13. Robinson, formerly commercial editor of the "Age," who, ■while in England, made close inquiries into the All Red mail route. Mr. Robinson is of opinion that it has now been brought within the region of practical consideration,, so as to give a 24 days' service between England and Brisbane. The success of the Lusitariia meant the revolution of the Atlantic traffic, find if Canada,is able to carry out her portion by'adopting a suitable land route for exjiress trains, he sees no difficulty in connection with the scheme of giving effect to aa All Bed mail route. He thought that the Eastern traffic must continue much, as.at present, but the service must necessarily be improved owing to competition that was.be}ng introduced. MrJ Kobinson also contended that the Suez Canal rates must be reduced, as they were now-much, too high. The attacks made-on the All Red routes by Eastern interests were not heeded in England, but Canada "was sore about them. He- was • surprised /while in England to find that so. little was reaily known about .the lied Route.' Having gone into figures, he was conyinced that the' route would be. established, and it wes now only a matter of time. Already the Union Company was prepared to" provide suitable turbine steamers for the Pacific service. Mr.' Robinson was convinced that the present mail service too much too long and that the Red Route would never be- th(; route to dispatch goods rfo-iri Europe to Australia. He had been for a trip on the sister ship Asturia which the Orient Company was sending out. It was r a splendid steamer. ■ °
