HOBART, this day.

■ The Swedish ship Alfhild, from Rio to Hobart, in ballast, was wrecked on the west coast of Tasmania on the Thursday morning of last. week.

I The first news was brought last night by the steamer Koonookarra, which carried sis of the Alfhild's crew. .The ship struck near Green Island during a beavy I storm, 18 feet from the cliffs of the mainland, and drifted further in shore. Within half an hour she broke up. Tremendous seas were running. Some of the crew, which numbered 17, managed to lower two boats, and eight got into one and three into the other. As the boats reached the beach they were smashed to pieces and one man was drowned.

Ten men reached shore, where they were joined by three of those left on the ship, the latter swimming ashore. The remaining three on the ship lost their lives. One of them was on a portion of the wreck for four days before dropping i into the sea. ' The thirteen men on shore wandered in 'search of food, but found only a few shellfish. Then they discovered a boat, I and six of them embarked on Monday and reached Maatouyker, but only just in time, as they -were swamped as they j landed. They were received and lospitably treated at the lighthouse. I Those rescued entertain grave fears for the safety of seven men left near the wreck, who had been -without food for .eight days. 1 ' When .the boat left they were in a bad condition, and especially the captain. : The Koonookarra left last night to i search for the missing men. (Received 9.53 a-m.) -. -•- HOBART,. this day. i Another account states that two seamen, the carpenter, the steward (Olsen), and the cook (Jacobsen) were drowned on the wreck. [The Alfhild is a Swedish ship of 1332 tons. She left Rio de Janiero on August 4, bound for Hobart, to load for the United Kingdom.]
