Great cracks opened out in several streets, houses being shaken from their foundations roof. Numerous ceilings came down, brick walls cracked, doors and -windows vers wrenched out of position, and nearly all the finest residences in the city damaged. The area affected is about 15 aires jj extent. Not a solitary room; ; palatial residence of Mr J. E..Wood, known as "Jismond House,*?;,escaped damage.
