The ' principal event at the VA:T.C: Spring Meeting, the Caulneld Cup, comes up for decision at Caulfleld to-morrow (Saturday). Considerable interest attaches -to the event locally in the fact that the Auckland owned horse Apologue is engaged, and is- popularly- considered ■to have a good chance of winning. The acceptances are not up to the average of former years, and the..winner may come from Poseidon Apologue, and Ebullition. PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB. •-> The twice-adjourned race meeting of the Pakuranga Hunt Club "takes place to-mor-row (Saturday) on the Avondale Jockey Club's course: The gathering will "be a novelty, to Auckland, as-no provision has been made for speculation, and it should be interesting to. note .the success or otherwise of the day's sport. The flret race is timed to start at 2 p.m., and a special train service will be- run, particulars of which will be found in our advertising columns. WELLINGTON' RACING CLUB. ■ SPRING MEETING OPENED. (By Telegraph,—Presa" Association.! WELLINGTON. Thursday. The spring meeting of the Wellington Kacing Club opened to-day in' fine weather. The course was in fair order and the at: tendance was large. The successful double combination—Gaeeley: (WeUington Handicap) and Muskerry (Flying Handicap)—paid a dividend of £36 10/. The sum of £13,715 was passed;throughthe totalisator, against £11,553 for the corresponding meeting last year, an increase of £2162. The following are the details of the racing:— Wellington Handicap of 4Oosovs, one mil* and a quarter.—Gaieley 1,. St Joe 2, William 3. Also started: Sir Tristram, Aeolus, Mystification, Douche, .Kurawaka, Clanchafctan, Hiro, Saga, MakikihL From an even start St. Joe, William, and Hifo were first to show out, Mystification'being.at'the, head of the others. ; When -the mile -post -was reached along the back Douche moved uo to the leaders,' Sir .Tristram,-: Glanchattan, and Makikihi bringing.: up the rear. ...At the five-furlong post Douche was- running second tft.S.t. Joe, William and Mystification being next. Before the straight was reached Sir Tristram-moved up from the ruck, and St. Joe and William had charge entering the Btraight. . At the distance Gazeley • came out. and,: overhauling the leaders, won by a length, William being three parts of a length away, third.
