ATTEMPTED ROBBERY UNDER ARMS ON THE RAND. A daring but unsuccessful attempt to steal a quantity of valuable "slim—," Of mud containing gold ore. Is reported from the lioo asou Gold Mine. In the early hours of the morning Mr. t. W. Rush was working alone iv the sh'ftroom of the cyanide house when he heard the order "Hands up!" He immediateiy ivheeled round and found a man in the room covering him with a revolver. Mr. Rush at once "ducked" under the table, managing with much presence of mind to ;witch off the electric light as he did so. [n the darkness he made his escape from the room, aud outside the door found two ither men. who rushed at him. but were mable to stop him. He then raised au alarm, and. as he ihonted. one of the assailants fired a re-.-olver, the bullet passing over Mr Rnsh'6 ae—d. Several workmen were attracted to _c spot by the shout and the sound ofl —c shot, but the three men had escaped in the meantime. Fortunately, they bad lot been aUowed sufficient time to take srit— them anything of value. About £7000 evor— of "slimes" were stored in the cyalide house.
