LOAN PROPOSALS D_—_TED.
Grey Lynn ratepayers, at the poll taken on Saturday, rejected the proposal to borrow £.22,000 for the purpose of making roads, etc., on the balance of the Surrey Hills Estate, in return for which an area of 30 acres was to be transferred to the borough by the Bank of 2-Jew Zealand for the purposes of a public reserve. The Council sub■mitted details of the scheme by circular to ratepayers. Opponents to the loan had several cabs at work bringing voters to the poll. The result was announced by the returning officer (Mr K. H. Irwin) shortly after eight o'clock. The voting was as follows:—For the proposal 255, against 417, majority against 132, informal 8. The voting at the different booths was as follows:— St. George's Hall: for the proposal BS, against 168; Council Chambers: for the proposal 153, against 79; Richmond fire station: for the proposal 29, against 117; school room, Richmond-road: for the proposal 15, against 53. There were about 1951 entitled to vote, and 703 recorded their vote.
