HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Thursday.
Mr. Napier, who has arrived in Wellington on legal business, has been enquiring for the Auckland Harbour Board as to the patent roofing for the new sheds on the Auckland Railway Wharf, also as to the success of the Wellington Harbour Board's luminous buoy off Soames' Island. Mr. Napier has moved to get luminous buoys placed in Rangitoto channel, as at Glasgow and Cherbourg and other European ports. He has interviewed Mr. W. Ferguson, C.E., engineer of the Wellington Harbour Board, as to a Wigham light, for the North Head. Mr. Napier is to see- Mr. Allport, secretary of the Marine Department, as to the Government's consent to placing out the luminous buoys in Rangitoto channel. Mr. Napier is also getting full details of the Glasgow lease system of leasing the Wellington harbour endowments, with a view to introducing the same system in Auckland. He will return to Auckland on Saturday.
