Alleged Forgery.—Grant Robert Westoby, alias Robert Grant, charged with forging and uttering a cheque on the National Bank for 17/ to Annie Steele was committed to take his trial at the. next sitting of the Supreme Court, bail being allowed in two sureties each of £ 75.

Inebriate.—Thomas Crighton, remanded from last week for medical treatment, was made the subject of a prohibition order. George Keenan, a previous offender, was fined 10/ and prohibited. Mary. Ann Windsor, who was only prohibited this week, was given seven days for drunkenness, and was fined £2, in default one month, for breaking prohibition, sentences to be concurrent. Two first offenders forfeited bail, and two others were fined the customary two half-crowns.

An Unfavourable Report.—The youth, Edward Edwards, alias Deering, remanded from last week for the probation officer's report, in connection with a conviction for the theft of a £1 note, was sent to prison for seven days, the report being unfavourable.

Threatening Behaviour.—Two seamen, William Powell and James Pond, each admitted having contributed to a breach of the peace in Queen-street last night, and were fined £ 1 and 2/6 costs each, in default seven days.

Obscenity.—Charles William J- Nicholson, convicted of using obscene language, was fined £3 and costs, in default one month. A charge of similar, nature against Charles Fagan, was dismissed. By-Law Breaches.—The following persons were fined for by-law breaches: — Mrs. M. Schacht, wandering cow, 10/ and costs; Robert Cochrane, riding a bicycle on the footpath, 10/ and costs; Henry Hall, riding a bicycle on the footpath, 10/ and costs; Thomas Church, wandering cow, 10/ and costs; George Crozens, wandering cows, 10/ and costs.

Keeping Children from School,—The following fines were inflicted for failing to send children to school:—John Shaw, 4/ and costs; William Carter, 6/ and costs; Charles sSpearpoint, 2/ and costs; Ed. Jones, £3 10/ and costs; Alvin Adolph, 12/ and costs; Katherine Woolf, 14/ and costs; Janet Stephenson, 6/ and costs; H. Johnson, 4/ and costs; Wm. Pugh, 4/ and costs.

Too Great a Hurry.—Charles Harris, for attempting to board a tramcar in Wellesley-street while it was in motion, was fined 10/ and costs. Defendant explained that be was in a big hurry to get home at the time, but in boarding the car a number of parcels he was carrying were his undoing, as he missed his footing and was spreadeagled on the hard road, the road getting considerably the hetetr of the argument.
