ASHORE IN THE GILBERTS.
SYDNEY, July 25
News has been received that the steamer Ysabel is ashore on a reef, at Tamu Island, in the Gilbert Group. The vessel's position is reported to be a precarious one.
[The Ysabel is an iron steamer of 524 tons gross, and is owned by Messrs. Burns, Philp and Co., Ltd., of Sydney. She was built at Hamburg in 1886", and passed over to her present owners ten years later. It is not long since Messrs. Burns, Philp and Co. lost their steamer Ovalau by fire.]
[The Ysabel came into prominence as the trader with the Marshalls which was affected by the harsh German restrictions placed on British shipping some, two years ago.]
