HAWKE'S BAT CHALLENGE MATCH.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. At a mepting of the M.-masremput Committee of rhe New Zealand Rugby Union this evening a letter was read from the Wagnaonl Rugby Union asking that its match with Auckland tie approved as an ordinary challenge match for the Rnnfurly Shleld. This was acceded to. The question of the Auckland-Hawke's Bay match at Auckland on August 10 being declared a special challenge match again came up for consideration. The committee hare now decided that the match is to lip a special challenge, the Hawke's Bay Union being allowed transit expenses fnr a reasonable number of players from Napier to Auckland and back. It was decided to "ask the South Canterbury r'nion for further information aoout a player who was disqualified till the end of 1008 for being drunk on the field of play, it being thought that the sentence was too lenipn*. Consideration of an appeal by the Gore Pioneer Club against disqualification hy the Southland Union was deferred for further information.
