THE BEACHES SEARCHED.

TAIRUA. this day.
The steamer Onslow visited the scene of the wreck of the scow Surprise again yesterday. Constable Brown and party searched the beaches, but could find no bodies. They secured a flag, some broken life buoys, and a name board.
The steamer called at Ohui and brought Harry Jackson to Tairua.. He walked to the boardinghouse on crutches, but is able to get about to-day, though still weak.
As showing the fury of the storm, dozens of crayfish and dead fish were thrown up on the beach, also tons of seaweed. We saw evidence of the force of .the breakers below the cliffs, where the edge of a pillow slip was found sticking out on a boulder, tons of stone, seawopd, and debris in layers having been blown up on -top of it. The ship's dog has been found lying on Pawanui Beach.
