LONDON, July 24.
An official inquiry is proceeding into the alleged extravagance of the Mile End (London, E.) Board of Guardians.
It is 'alleged that the Guardians granted privilege contracts, and many thousands of pounds are involved in the general charges.
[The West Ham inquiry revealed the most extraordinaiy state of affairs in the luxurious living of the paupers, who enjoyed some expensive comforts which had even been excluded from the royal palaces on account of their expanse, such as electric lighting in its most wasteful form. Baths of porcelain and elaborate decorations were also mentioned in the evidence.]
