THE TRAMWAYS DIFFICULTY.
TRADES COUNCIL RESOLUTION.
The Auckland Trades and Labour Council last night adopted a resolution congratulating the outside local bodies on the stand they had taken with reference to the tramways difficulty, and their decision to look after their own business in the future instead of leaving it to the City Council.
The mover of the resolution, Mr D'Authreau, said the City Council had received a rap on the knuckles. The management of the tramways, so far as the City Council was concerned., had been a failure. He hoped the outside local bodies would stand firm to their decision.
The much maligned "'strap-hanger" -was summarily dealt with, and the following resolution was carried:—"That this council do emphatically protest against any alteration in the City by-laws, so as to permit 'strap-hangers.' "
The question of imported uniforms was again discussed, Mr said nothing had been heard of £he matter since the company had obtained samples from the local tenderers.
Mr A. Rosser said ho believed the men were being sent to a local firm for mea-
surements,
Mr D'Autherau moved: "That this council do wish to know from the Auckland City Council whether any contract has been let for the supply of tramway uniforms to the Tramway Company," Mr Graham seconded and the motion was carried.
