NEW ZEALAND RACING CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON 7 ,, Monday.

The statement of receipts and ture presented to the New Zealand Kacme Conference in connection with the. accident fnnd showed that the receipts, including £4500 brought forward, amounted to £<oo<.; claims paid, :o £TS6; claims not settled, £594. The credit balance amounts to £6522. The Chairman said the fund had increased; hut he had been advised by actuaries that the time liad not yet arrived for reductions. ■

Mr George Hunter gave notice to_move, "That contributions should be reduced from £1 to Mi/." ' '■ The committee to consider 5 totaiisator-per-mits and date?, of meetings .was appointed as follows-—Mfesrs Friedlander, AUson, Goodbehere, Hood-Williams, Abbott, and McVay. A motion that this committee be appointed for the nest Conference as well was negatived. The opinion was expressed that if the committee was to be a permanent one the metropolitan clubs should have further representation. Sir George Clifford moved a long resolution providing the machinery by which, suspected cases of malpractice could be inTestigated .md dealt with by a permanent tribunal of .five members appointed by the Conference, which should have power to issue, cancel, or suspend owners' licenses. The motion was seconded by Mr Vavaeonr. 3lr B. W. Alison said he thought the proposals were too drastic and would cause no end of trouble. The Hon.> O. Samuel sympathised with. Mr Alison's view, but felt it was time something was done. Still any method of licensing owners should be avoided, and he could not think of anything more dangerous. He moved, 'That a permanent committee of five members be appointed to make inquiries and take such means as may be: expedient to deal with any circumstances coming to its knowledge witU Regard to any corrupt practices."

The Chairman said he ipould' support Mr Samuel's motion, and it was decided to defer its further consideration until next day.

Orrnond moved to amend the rule relating to days over which race meetings shall extend as follows: —Two days' meetings' not to extend over more than <three days; three days.', meetings .not to extend over more than five; fevur days' meetings not to extend . over more, than eight.' This was negatived by 22 to IS.
