WAIHI, Thursday.

At a meeting of the Finance Committee of the Borough Council last night, accounts amounting to £609 0/9 were passed for payment.

At the fortnightly meeting t* Loyal Waihi Lodge, 1.0.0. F., last night, the lodge was reported to be in a very satisfactory condition, having now a membership of 133.

A ■very successful basket social was held last night in connection with the Druids' lodge. There was a good attendance, and the (unction proved to be of a very enjoyable nature. A guinea prize, offered for the most tastefully arranged basket, was won by Miss Maroney, and Mrs H. Manning secured a two-guinea prize for being owner of the basket bringing the highest price. A very enthusiastic meeting in aid of Salvation Army social and rescue work took place this evening. It is stated that Mr J. Newth, who has so yery ably filled the office of president of the Miners' Union for several years, does not intend seebins re-election. • ti hd i. llMMfl Marshall, son of Mr D. Marshall, Bnlltown, serving on the training snip Aruokura. is at present on a holiday visit to his parents. Marshall is the boy who was so highly commended by the officer commanding, who recently, in a letter to a local citizen, said if Waihi had any more boys like Marshall, to send them along '■ Mr E. Haszard, one of the victims of Saturday night's buggy accident, has sufficiently recovered to move abont again. In addition to a severe flesh wound on the arm he also sustained a nasty kick from the horse on the leg. The visit of the Auckland football representatives on Saturday, for the purpose of competing against the Goldfields team, is being looked forward to with great Interest. The weather to-day is beautifully fine, and should it hold out over Saturday, a record gate should result.
