WAIHI TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

DISTRICT TO BE OANVASSED FOR

FUNDS.

(By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent)

WAIHI, this day. A special meeting of the Technical School Committee was held last ni"ht Mr. F. H. Mueller presiding. The deputation that waited pn the Borough Council reported the hitter's refusal to grant £300 towards the establishment of a technical school.

In reply to Mr. Colebrook the chairman said it would take about £300 to start the school, provided the Government was as liberal in the way of subsidy and grant as they had been to the Thames and Whangarei districts. Mr. Foster suggested the school children being furnished with collecting cards, but this was not adopted, it having been suggested by the Mayor that the Technical School would operate against the School of Mines.

It was mentioned by Mr. Livesay that the Directors of the School of Mines considered that such a branch of education as that proposed was rather an assistance to the mining school instead of a detriment, evidence of which was obtained at the Thames.

It was eventually agreed to canvass the whole district, two canvassers to be appointed and paid 7i per cent on the collections. The chairman was appointed treasurer.

On the motion of Mr. Davies it was resolved to ask the Rugby Union to oi ve one match in aid of the Technical School funds, and also that Mr. Hicks he asked to lecture for the same purpose.
