PREFERENTIAL TARIFF.

The proposals of the Government with regard to the extension of the system of preferential trade adopted under the? Act of 1904 are given below: —

Resolved that there shall be levied and paid to the use of His Majesty on all goods specified in schedules C, D and E. and not being the produce or manufacture of soma part of the British Dominions if imported into New Zealand after the respective dates hereinafter specified in this or entered for home consumption after the said dates, in addition to duties (if any) authorised under schedules A and B, the duties of Customs following: (1), On the articles specified in schedule C, if so imported or entered after the data mentioned, an amount equal to the amount payable on these articles under schedule A; (2), on articles specified schedule D part i., after the said date, an amount equal to one-half of the amount payable on these articles under schedule A, except so far as otherwise provided in schedule D part I.; (3), on the articles specified in schedule D part 11. after the 31st day of March, 1908, an amount equal to one half of the amount payable on these articles uiider schedule A; (4), on the articles specified in schedule D part 111., after March 31st, 1908, an amount equal to "20 per cent of amount payable on these articles under schedule A; (5),0n the articles specified in schedule E part 1., after the 16th day of July, 1907, duties equal 20 per cent of value for duty as defined by Customs Laws Consolidation Act ISS2, or its amendments: (6), on articles specified in schedule E part TL, after the 31st March, 190S, duties equal 20 per cent the value for duty as .defined by Customs Laws Consolidation Act 1882 or its amendments; (7), on the articles specified in schedule E part 111., after the 31st March, 190S, duties equal to 10 per cent the value for duty as defined by Customs Laws Consolidation Act 18S2, or amendments.

Preferential duties upon the articles hereafter enumerated to be charged up to and including the 31st day of October, Wi>7. thereafter to cease and determine:— Cream of tartar; glass, crown, sheet, and common window; glass, plate, polished, coloured, and other kinds, not otherwise enumerated: paper-hangings.
