(Received 8.24 a.m.)

NEW YORK, July 16. Details of the Georgia explosion show that while a charge of 2001b was being lifted from the hoist two seamen noticed the cover smouldering, and shouted a warning.

They then threw themselves on the floor, and a terrific burst of flame followed. The turret was filled with smoke and noxious gases. A number of men tried to escape through the hatchway; some gained the deck and jumped into the sea. The chaplain was the first to enter the turret.

Two more deaths of injured are reported, making seven in all, and six others are in a precarious state. It is suspected that a spark from the Georgia's funnel ignited the powder. Either the concussion or the fire injured all who were in the turret at the time of the occurrence.
