Mr. E. W. Payton, director of the Elani School of Art, went South by the NgapuM yesterday.
Miss Jessie Maclachlan, the celebrated Scottish songstress, arrived from Sydney by the Zealandia yesterday.
Captain Thorpe, of the Lyttelton HaTbour Board, who has been visiting Australia, is returning by the Zealandia, which arrived from Sydney last night.
Mr. W. H. Dempsey, Oi the Auckland Telegraph Department,Jias been promoted to take charge of the Paeroa Office. He left Auckland to take .up his new-duties on Saturday.
Messrs. J. H. O"-Neil, L. P. Becroft, and G. LinnelL who have been attending the Counties' Conference in Wellington, are returning to Auckland by the Main Trunk railway route.
On Saturday last Mr. E. H. Harrison, JJ?., mine manager of the Sapa-nga South Mine, was presented by the employees with. a. silver-mounted, umbrella, as a token of their esteem, on the occasion of his severing fris connection. Much regret was expressed at Mr. Harrison's resignation.
A Press Association telegram from Tauranga states that Mr. John Cameron Galbraith, formerly a storekeeper, and later a farmer in the Te Puke district, rdied on Saturday morning, ;agted ii 6 years. He landed with the Te Puke settlers here in 18S1. At the time of his death he was secretary of the Bay of Plenty Dairy Association.
