I A sensational accident happened on board the Italian barque Avanti Savoia, •in Sydney Harbour, with the result that four of the crew were injured. While the anchor was being weighed by means of a capstan-worked windlass, and, when the operation w&s almost completed, something went wrong with the gear, and the weight of the anchor was thrown upon the men manning the capstan. They stood the strain for a few seconds, and tben the bars were torn from their grasp. Being released, the capstan flew round with terrific force, and as the anchor plunged into the water the bars were hurled about the deck. In their flight they struck several of the crew. When order was restored 1 it was found that four of the men were seriously injured. They were taken ashore by the tuw and thence to tht -Sydney Hospital bv°the Civil Ambulance "brigade. Followin s are the names of the men and their injuries:—Nicola Bernadice", fractured skull - Lueilio Mazzi, fractured skull; Carlo Semeredei, broken leg; and Francesco Gen to, injuries to the back.
