STEEPLECHASE WON BY DITHAM. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, July 13. The V.E.C. Grand National meeting was concluded to-day at Flemington. The following was the result of the GRAND NATIONAL. STEEPLECHASE. Mr G. Hodgkinson"s Divham, 10.5 (Rayi 1 Mr H. Kelly's Maine, 9.0 (A. Williamson) 2 Mr G. Mawley's Boomerang, 10.3 (Deeble) 3 Sixteen horses started. Betting: S to 1 against Decoration, Cardinal, Boisdale, and Boomerang, 10-to t Bellis and Danjuiro, 1G to 1 Swimmer, 20 to 1 Divham. S3 to 1 Maine.
From a fair start The Trick was best away from Swimmer, Cardinal, and Springfield. Cardinal lost his rider at the first fence, and Swimmer fell. The Trick was headed by Divham at the' abattoirs, where Decoration fell, and at the sixth fence Western came down. At the second fence in the straight The Trick came to grief, which gave Divham the lead, and he led over the treble and past the stand from Boomerang and Warfield, after whom came Danjuiro. Mayo, and Boisdale. Along the riverside Divham still showed the way. attended by Danjuiro and Boomerang, with Boisdalo nearest of the others. Divham was still in the van as they swept past the she<ls. whpre Seymour fell. Divham landed into the straight with, several lengths lead from Springfield, then came Maine, Boomerang. Bellis, Danjuiro, and Mayo. In the run home Divham easily held his own and won by six lengths. Time. 6m 36£s.
