COMMERCIAL.
FRUIT AND PRODUCE MABKETS. Business on the local fruit and produce markets drains the past week has been moderately brisk, although the prevailing ba<l_ weather had the effect of restricting trade. In p.rodoce very heavy shipments ol potatoes arrived from Tasmania on Monday together with shipmects from th* Soucn, the result being - that the market has eased, with prices .a shade lower. A good supply of local onions was sent in and , sold {at satisfactory values. Ves<»tebies of all kinds, with the exceptfo'u or pumptins,. continue scarce. Very few or the latter sent in were in Rood condition, and sales. were difficult to effect. In dairy produce there was a. good supply of both farmers' bntter and fresh eggs, all meeting with, ready sale. There was no farmers* make of cheese offering. There were fair supplies or bacon and hams, but sales were slow. The fruit market was well supplied with local consignments of apples, but ownig to advices being received that the Sydney steamer on Monday has considerable shipments from Tasmania, the market was easier yesterday with lower prices. Ponltry was in godd supply all round, and sold under keen competition. Very few young pigs came forward at the auction sales. The following were the ruling prices at the sales yesterday:— Field Produce.—Potatoes: Southern, table, £4 10/ to £3 ton; do., Tasmanlan, £4 15/ to £5; do., local seed varieties, 5/6 to 6/ cwt. Kumaras: Local. 7/ cwt; do. Island, 4/6 to 5/ case. Onions: Local, prime, 5/6 to 6/ cwt; do.. Australian, £7 ton. Chaff: Local. £4 5/ to £4 10/. Dairy Produce.—Farmers' and separator butter, 8d to 9Jd lb; do., milled, in bulk, for esport, Sid; do., pastry, 7d. EggsFresh, 1/4 to 1/6 dozen; do., picLled, 1/ •to 1/1. Cheese: Farmers'. sid to 6d lb; do., factory loaf, 7id. Bacon: Factory, 6Jd to 7d. Hams: Factory, Bd. Fruit. —Apples r Local, dessert, 7/10' to 9/ case; do., cooking, 8/ to 8/6. Grapes, 2/9 to 2/11J lb. Oranges: Local. Poor Man's. 3/6 to 4/ case; do.. Island (repacked), 7/; do., Sydney, 3/- to 3/6 V Mandarins: Sydney, 3/6 to 4/. Lemons: Local, prime, 5/ to 5/6; do., rough and coarse, 2/6 to 3/. Passion-fruit: Sydney, 4/6 to 7/. Peanuts, 2Eid lb. Bananas, 2/6 to 3/ bunch; do., repacked, ljd lb. Pines: Queensland, 6/. to 8/ case. Cocoanuts, 9/ saefc.
Poultry.—Hens, 1/11 to 2/3 each; table roosters, 2/6 to 4/; ducks, 2/3 to 2/8; geese, 3/6 to 4/; turkeys, gobblers, 3/6 to 14/, according to condition; do., hens, 4/6 to a/. Miscellaneous.— Young pigs, 7/6 to 9/ each. Mr J. Others unchanaed. The wheat markets axe steady and quiet, immediate supplies in Europe are ample and cargoes are neglected. Flour is slightly firmer. The butter market is very dull. Colonial nominally unchanged. Sugar quotations: German, 9/6; first marks, 11/2. The Bradford wool market is qniet and there is better inquiry for merinos. Common sixties, 27d; super. 28d. At the London wool sale the average price realised for the Rainui clip was IOJd. (Received 9.34 a.m.) \ LONDON, July 12. Silver, 2/TJ. At the kauri gum sales 640 cases were offered and 150 sold. The maiket is slightly firmer. Fair three-quarter scraped. 165/. The wool sales are animated and everything is hardening.
