POLICE COURT.
YESTERDAY. Stone-throwing.—Some eighteen boys were arraigned for stone-throwing in Alexander-street on Sunday. Five of the boys pleaded guilty to the offence, the remainder denying implication. The boys were all on their way home from attending Sunday-school, and passing a Chinaman's residence, engaged in a bombardment on the Celestial's abode. The magistrate, upon calling for a promise that no more of this exercise should take place, was met with a chorus of assents from the young brigade, who were accordingly warned and allowed to escape, the costs of the prosecution being divided among the five culprits who had admitted the offence. The Innocent and the Guilty.—The hearing of the charge against George Holt and Walter Mark Kenny of stealing £10 from the person of Horatio Hobson was concluded yesterday afternoon. Kenny had previously indicated his intention of pleading guilty, while Holt's plea was '"not guilty." On the evidence, his Worship decided that there was not sufficient weight of testimony to warrant a committal, so Holt was accordingly discharged. Kenny was committed for sentence.
