A DUKE'S ESTATES.
Proceedings by the Crown. g, . (Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 12. Tbe Crown is proceeding against the iDoke of- Richmond and Gordon to reewer duty on his Scottish estate, valued at:J790,000. The late Duke cut off the entail, creating encumbrances in favour of the Earl of March (his son and heir) to the-extent'Of £450,000, and in favour of Iford. Settrington I his second heir) to the. extent of £257,000. The Crown contended, that the encumbrances were not entitled to be deducted, but were designed to remove the estate from the operation Pf. the Finance Act (1894). Mr. Justice Bray reserved judgment, fending with regard to the fioodwood Estates., in Sussex. [The - seventh Duke of Richmond and Second., of Gordon succeeded to his present titles on the death of his father in 1903. The Scottish estates referred to are at. Gordon Castle, Foehabers, Banff»Mre, and Glenfiddich Lodge, Dufftown, and the famous Goodwood Estate is situ-β-ted near Chichester. The total area of «» Duke's estates is 286,500 acres.]
