BISHOP AND GRAMMAR.
VICAR"S STHANGE LETTER TO A BISHOP. The Rev. R. C. Fillingham on May 24 addressed the following letter to the Bishop of Bristol:— '•I am to preach at the Kingswood Primitive Methodist Church, Bristol, on June 2. '•I think your lordship will agree that circumstances have altered since I last preached in the diocese. We are in the light of the New Theology, beginning to see how petty are the points on which we differ. May I therefore hope to have a word of commendation to wish us God speed in our reunion on Sunday?" The bishop's reply, dated May 26, was brief and dicnifled: — "The Bishop of Bristol can not think that Mr Fillingham deserves any recognition at his hands." To this Mr Fillingham responded in the followinc terms:— "Tdx Filliugham does not think that the bishop deserves any recognition at his hands. Mr Fillingham may, however, remind the. bishop that "cannot" Is , one word in the English language, not two. If his lordsjilp Is not in poesesion of an English grammar, Mr Fillingham will be happy'to supply him with one."
