An exchange reports that the officers ana crew of the big cargo steamer Aymenc, which is tinder charter to the Union Company, are to be paid the Australasian rates of wages whilst engaged in colonial waters. The higher rate of pay has been compulsory under the Arbitration Court awaTd conceded to the Mexchaot Service Guild.

Advice has been received by Messrs Huddart. Parker and Co. that the new passenger steamer which is now being built for the intercolonial trade has been named Ulimaroa. The vessel will be abont 6500 tons, and will have twinscrews. It is expected that she will b<? ready to enter the New Zealand trade early in December.

For some time past it has been ruiaoured that the well-known Shaw. Savill steamer Gothic was to oe withdrawn from the New Zealand trade. Advice has been received confirming this report, and it is announced that the present trip will be the vessel's last voyage in the New Zealand trade. The Gothic has played an important part in the growth of the colony, and was at one time the foremost of the direct traders. The Gothic is to leave Lyttelton for London on the ISth inst. The nest run from London which was set down for the Gothic will be taken by the Mamari, leaving London on ISth September.
