THE GOLDFIELDS.
FERGUSON'S MINING AND SMELTING COMPANY. The directors of the Ferguson'6 Mining and Smelting Company to-day cabled money in part payment for the pyritic smelting furnace from America. This is in addition to the £2000 sent when the machinery was ordered. The furnace will be forwarded by a steamer, which is loading at New York direct for Auckland. The other portion of the machinery will be shipped via San Francisco. It is hoped to have the plant at work toward the close of the i present year. The company's engineer, 'Mr. C. E. Stone, leaves shortly for America to inspect the machinery before finally taking it over.

The manager telegraphed • this afternoon: "Selected 1201bs of picked stone from the ninth stope, above No. 5 level."
