ATTACKED AND ROBBED.

IN HIS OWN GARDEN.

Mr. John Woods, a resident of St. Kilda-road, Melbourne, was robbed by three men on Saturday night while strolling in his own garden. H°e had been at the Moonee Valley races, and after dinner lit a cigar and walked out into the front garden. He had hardly emerged from his door when three men, who had apparently been waiting, pounced on him.

One seized him by the throat, the second struck him a violent blow in the stomach, and the third kicked his legs from under him. The three rufiians held him on the ground while they secured his gold watch and chain and" diamond pendants, valued at £250, and £14 in cash. His assailants then decamped, and later Woods was found lying insensible on the ground by hi 3 nephew. Mr. Woods states that he had been in the habit of wearing three single-stone diamond rings, each valued at £200, but had taken them off in order to put on his gloves. He thinks that these rings were probably the special attraction to the thieves.
