Mr. Bent Replies to Criticism, LONDON, June 7. A number of financiers interested in Victoria gave a luncheon to Mr Bent yesterday afternoon. Mr Faithful Begg. tho well-known stockbroker, who presided, objected to the tone of Mr W. M. Hughes' recent speeches, which, he said, were calculated only to produce a feeling of unrest. Mr Bent assured tne gathering that it was perfectly safe to invest money in Victoria. Most of the Labour leaders had substantial vested interest in the State, and he was willing to pledge himself that future legislation would in no way interfere with legitimate investment Victoria, he added, had faithfully observed her obligations.
