AN ACTOR'S GOLF.

Mr. Fred Terry, tie popular actor, is vers partial to golf, and his friends often tease him by saying they will have to arrange a matt_ between bim and the great Harry Vardon. Then Mr. Terry tells haw such a match came about He was speneiing the week-end at a dulj house, and late at night word was brought by one of the waiters that the great Varao would be there next day. "This is my chance," thought Mr. Terry; "I must have a round with Vardon." The next day Vardon and Mr. Terry started out together. "I never felt more fix in my life," s-aya Mr. Terry, -'and someHow I did not feel a bit nervous. Vardon himself seemed tt> look upon it as somewhat of a joke. "I started with a magnificent drive, followed by a beautiful approach shot, ami holed ia three—two inside bogey. Vardon. seemed a little astonished, but preserved his air of calm certitude. "Now came the critical moment. I had done this hole in six. and history had it that it was once done in four. I felt thai Vardon, even with all his skill, could not hope to do it in less than that number. To. do this would mean a tremendous driven bracing myself up for the effort I raised my, club, and put into the stroke all I knew— there was a noise like splintered wood—and I woke up. to find that my dear old; briar pipe had fallen into the fender.
