MAORI LANDS PURCHASED.

LARGE AREAS FOR CLOSER SETTLEMENT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ™" HAMILTON, this day. Government native land purchase agents were in Ngaruawahia yesterday, with the object of taking over 13.500 acres of Te Akau block in from Karaka. The owners interested number about 50, and £8000 cash was paid out yesterday. This land will be placed on the market at an early date for closer settlement under the optional system, which no doubt will meet with the approval of all intending settlers. The Board will immediately turn its attention to the purchase of 17,000 acres at the Raglan end, and this will also be placed on the market on the same conditions. There is sure to be a rush for the land.
