The following renewals of publicans' licenses were granted:—Ncrtheote, Hotel (Thomas Wm. Allen i; Luca3 Creek Hotel. Albany (Alexander Stevenson): Lake Hotel (John W. H. Bright); Hot Springs Hotel, Waiwera (Thomas Mincheri; Esplanade Hot*]. Devonport (John M. Franklin) ; Fails Hotel. Henderson (Henry Brown); Riverhead Hotel (Thomas Wm. Deacon i ; Masonic Hotel j (B. B. Raynes); Wade Hotel (Joseph! Bc-hollum): White Horse Hotel, Kumeu (Thomas Wm. Deacon, junr.) : Puhoi Hotel (James Titford).' The police reports concerning all the above houses were entirely satisfactory. Among other points it was contended that a license was not required in the neighbourhood: that the quiet- of the place would be disturbed if the license were granted.: that there was no power , given in the Licensing Acts in force in I this colony to grant an accommodation | license, power only being given to grant j publicans' licenses, under section 5, j Alcoholic L-iqucrs Sale Control Act, j 1593. and that as required under this j section, there was not a population of seven hundred within a radius of two aniles from the Mansion House.

Ib some cases the police reported that the buildings were old and dilapidated. and that new buildings were required. All applications, after discussion, were granted, except those to which objections were taken as to the state of the buildings, and in these cases the applications were .adjourned to enable the committee to visit the houses.
