AQUATICS.

VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB.

The third series of sailing races in connection with the above club were sailed in the harbour on Saturday last. There was a good field of entries'in aIL classes, and some good finishes resulted. The following are the results:—First class, Emerald, 2h 39m 10s; Seagull, 3h 40m 40s: Why Not, 3h 45s 40s: Kamo, 3h 46m 12s. The Glady gave tlie race up on the first time round. wßile the Tere did not start. On time allowance Kamo takes first place, Seagull second, and Why Not third.

Second Class—Hitty 4h 2m 12s; Maro, 4h 7m 21s; Rawhiti, 4h 8m 2s; Princess, 4h llm ss; Ventura, 4b. 17m ols; Stormbird, 4h 21m ss. Countess did not start. On time allowance Stormbird takes first place, Ra-whiti second, and Maro third.

Special Class—Hasher, 4h 7m 31s; Wanderer, 4h 9in 15s; Encounter. 4h 10m 555; Mayo, 4h llm 58s. The Rona did not start, while the Eona broke her bowsprit and did not finish. The Masher takes first prize, Mayo second, and Encounter third.

DEVONPORT YACHT CLUB

The Devonport Yacht Club held a. ■general handicap race on Saturday afternoon last for a handsome silver cup, presented by the commodore (Mr J. C. Mackay). Over 20 yachts competed, the race being quite the best that has been held in Auckland this season. After a very close race Ariki finished first, about two minutes ahead of Thelma, which was about 10 minutes ahead of Ida. Then came Moana a few seconds followed closely by Kotiri. Ngatira was about seven minutes behind the Kotiri, and the Glorianna was about the same distance astern of the first-named boat. The other boats to finish were: Waterwitch, Momai. Iris, and Mavourneen in that order. On time allowance Kotiri is first. Ida second, and Glorianna third. Kotiri thus secures the cup, which is now the property of her owner, the conditions for the race being that the trophy was to be won outright.

MOTOR BOAT RACING.

The New Zealand Power Boat Association held the first heat on Saturday for the cup presented by the Union Gas Engine Company, through their agents, Messrs VF. A. Ryan and Co. The officials in charge were Messrs W. S. Whitley (commodore). Holland (secretary), and M. Lane. The end of the wharf was lined with spectators who watched the progress of the race with the greatest interest. The race was sailed over the Association's 10-knot course. Following were the starting times; Tempest, 2h, 30m; Regal, 2h, 37m 18s; Marere, 2h, 38m 50s; Waimumu, 2h 39m 40s; Camper, 2h. 47m 50s; Reality, 2h oltu 40s; Baby Lozier, 3h 2m 30s; Grey Witch, 3h 14m 595. With the exception of Grey Witch, which lost fully ! 49sec at the start, all the boats got away fairly to time. Baby Lozier and Grey Witch made the pace hot from the "start, and at the finish Tempest and Baby Lozier were in the lead, the latter winning by one second. Following were the finishing times: Baby Lozier, 3h 58m 255; Tempest, 3h 58m 265; Grey Witch, 3h 59m 11s; Marere, 4h 4m 495; Regal, 4h 5m 545; Reality, 4h 7m 255; Waimumu, 4h 7m 275. Camper did not finish. Following was the result: Baby Lozier (Twiggs) —1; Tempest (A. Sanford)—2; Grey Witch (A. O. Whitley) —3.
