YACHTING.

The Boyal New Zealand Yacht Squadron concluded their season on Saturday afternoon last with a sailing and a launch race to Mateatea. The crews subsequently proceeded to Squadron Bay where a cricket match was arranged to take place with a Ponsonby Cruising Club eleven. The Squadron batted first, and compiled thirty runs. Ponsonby then Avent in to bat, but unfortunately the ball broke, and as there was not another available, the game had to be be abandoned. It is understood, that another match will be arranged.

The New Zealand Power Boat Association are holding a race this afternoon for the Union Cup.

The event most talked of in yachting circles this week is the Devonport Yacht Club's race to be held to-day for Commodore Maekay's cup. The cup is far ahead of anything of its kind offered for competition in yacht races this season, as it is to be won outright, and naturally large entries have been .received. Over twenty boats have Seen entered, and a good race should be the result.

Mr. W. Culpan has purchased Messrs. Price Bros. 10-h.p. launch Huona. Mr. Gillet has shipped his launch to the Waikato.

Mr. J. H. Colwill has had a 10-h.p. Standard engine fitted into his boat Waimumu.

The New Zealand Power Boat Association are holding a picnic at Pine Island next Saturday. A race for launches (7 knots and under) will be held in connection with the picnic, the course being from Queen-street wharf to Pine Island. The prize is five cases of benzine, presented by the Colonial Oil Co.

Mr. A. Matheson has built for himself a 35ft launch fitted with a 10-h.p. Doman engine. She was launched last week.

Mr. J. P. Howden has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Power Boat Association in succession to Mr. W. C. Robinson, resigned, and Messrs. W. A. Reid and A. Sandford,. jun., have been elected to the two vacancies on the committee.
